Art in the Mail and A Sketch

I received a lovely card in the mail yesterday from my lovely and talented friend Tracey Fletcher King and wanted to share it with you. If you don't know Tracey, you will definitely want to follow the link above to visit her.

I took this photo using Photo Booth on my iMac.

I've been working hundreds of crosswords during my convalescence, and found a space at the bottom of one of them on which to sketch my left hand.

At yesterday's PT session, I finally began working on moving the wrist. I still  have to wear this hard cast/splint, which makes it really difficult to write/draw with my right hand, but I am working through it. The exercises can only help. I am hoping to get clearance to no longer wear this contraption before Christmas.

Today I have to try my hand at cleaning a bit in the bathrooms and then may actually begin the overwhelming task of cleaning off the surfaces in my art room so it is ready for me when I am ready to get back in there and really do some art. Perhaps later today I will try to get a photo of the junk drawer so I can catch up with Aimee and List It Tuesday - it appears I am a week behind.

What about you? What are your plans for the day? Does it include some arty projects? Are you making cards? sketching? painting? Do share.....

Finally Found My Niche, Goodies in the Mail, Sketches

I finally made my niches in the back glued section of the altered book I am working on. Now if only I can find things to fit in them. Next book, I will find my treasures and then make niches to fit them.

And just look at the lovely bookmarks that arrived in the post from my dear friend Tracey Fletcher King. I just love her art, don't you? What do you mean, you don't know her? Hope on over to her blog and check her out. You're gonna love her.

I've done another couple of quick sketches in my small journal that I would like to share. First is this grosbeak. Once I get a bird drawn, I think his body is much too round and short, but I am quite sure this is how he looked. It was probably a bit chilly out and he had fluffed himself out to keep warm, you think?

And finally, I have a mountain lake landscape sketch. I do think I am due to try a watercolor painting. I actually found a book about painting portraits with a step by step of a red headed girl. I am thinking I should try again with Miss P (if only I can get her mouth drawn correctly) while I have this book checked out of the library.

Or, a landscape might be a bit less challenging, but rewarding nonetheless if I can just keep from overworking the colors.

My conditioning class doesn't meet today, so I will jog for an hour on the treadmill and then I will jump into a watercolor. Hopefully I will have a progress report for you tomorrow.

What do you have planned for the day? Are you finding time for yourself and your particular brand of creativity? I surely hope so. I must say I am looking forward to seeing what you are working on.

Birthday Girl, Her Art, & Today's Sketch

My first born grandgirl just turned 9 last week. Just before her birthday she made her first trip to the orthodontist to begin her treatment. She has a palate expander and a Herbst appliance. It is causing her teeth to move apart so I had to take a picture so we can have a record to look back on and remember.

Here is my little beauty with her newly acquired "Lauren Hutton" gap.

And here is a bit of art she made for me using my Caran d' Ache Neocolor IIs and a bit of water on a brush.

I've done my 3 mile jog on the treadmill and decided to return to the scene of the activity and do a quick sketch of the view from there. I'm afraid the scale is not very good and the bridge looks a bit wonky, but here it is for what it is worth.

Maybe I should take some lessons from my girl tribe.

The Nadal/Berdytch match is on and I'm going to get a bottle of water and settle down in front of the TV and watch it a bit. Did you see the Clijsters/Wozniacki match last evening? Wow! I'm calling Kim for the champion when all is said and done.

Hope you are finding time to do some art and catch some of the Australian Open.

I am still waiting to hear from Tracey so I can send her the prize she won in yesterday's drawing. I am going to be going away for awhile at the end of the month and would like to get this prize in the mail before I go. If I don't hear from Tracey by Friday, I will choose another name from the comments.
