Holidays

I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had a lovely day yesterday and if you didn't get what you wanted, maybe you should examine your behavior over the past year (at least that is what my 5 year old grandgirl tells me).

I thought this would be a good time to introduce you to my grandgirls. They are after all both my artistic muses and my artistic blocks. Muses because they remind me that art is fun and whatever you want to make it. Blocks because many times when I want to get into my art room, I am too busy tending them to have an opportunity to do so.

First up, the artists: the girls got mostly art supplies for gifts and they were thrilled as you can see below. We open gifts from each other on Christmas and have a meal at my house. This time the girls just had to try out some of their arty gifts right after dinner.

I couldn't find one where both girls were interacting with me, so this one of my little ham must be included. I am hoping her other grandmother (Mima) is still occasionally reading my blog now that she has moved hours away. This one really captures her personality.

And of course, you must meet the monkey. I swear this child will climb on anything she encounters. I am caught in that place where I want to protect her BUT I need to let her get a small hurt to learn not to be so adventurous. I must say she keeps me hopping.

We had a lovely, if noisy, holiday and it reminded me how fortunate I am to have my family within 20 minutes or so of my house when many of my friends with grandchildren must travel more than a day to see them.

I am hoping to get some art done today. I started a collage about a month ago that I put aside to work on other things and I think after having moved it a dozen times it is time to play with it for awhile today and see if I can get it to a place where I am happy with it. WHEW - I think that was a run on sentence if ever I did see one!? *-)

For now, don't forget to live in the moment.

  3. Hey Vicki - It's my pleasure that you get the copy of 1000 Journal Pages, even though Bridgette picked me first. You'll love the book -- so many ideas! I just ordered a bunch of copies of a soon-to-be-published limited edition of a zine I worked on at ArtUnraveled this year and will have a contest for a copy of that on my blog soon. Visit me and watch for it! By the way, I had a climber, too. He would open drawers and climb up into the open drawers. Pulled at least one 6-drawer chest onto himself. And he tried climbing the 7 foot bookcase (which we then molly-bolted to the wall). It's enough to stop a mother's heart. Thank god he's now 20 and not such a daredevil.
