Photo of the Day and Drawing in Public

Here is today's photo:

I just love the rose breasted grosbeak, don't you?

And I decided to be brave and show you my first try at drawing in public. I'm thinking there must be a learning curve to this. People move so much it is hard to get anything down before they are gone. I will try this again and hope to get better at it.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon. She was attentive and concerned. She ordered a series of abdominal x-rays that I had done right there and a pelvic ultrasound that is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

I am still in a great deal of pain and wouldn't you know - while I was still in the examination room with the doc, she sent a prescription for a pain killer/anti-inflammatory to the pharmacy at Krogers, where I was planning to stop to get some produce. Between the time she "sent" it from her computer to the time I got to the pharmacy at least 45 minutes had elapsed. The prescription had not arrived yet. I will have to call today to see if it is there and filled and then send the hubster to pick it up for me.

Oh, by the way, today is our 32nd wedding anniversary. I don't think we will be celebrating just yet. Maybe next week some time - at least I hope I am not still in such pain by then.

xoxo

  1. Happy Anniversary! For better, for worse, in sickness and in health the old vows went. I guess today you can be thankful of the truth in those words while you have your day without celebrating. You can at least be glad you are together in this bad spot of health for you.

Hey, at least you tried drawing the moving people. I haven't done that. It is hard. I have enough trouble with someone who is trying to sit still!

  2. Indeed, happy anniversary to the two of you! I love those birds, too - we used to get them where we lived before, but I haven't seen one in years. I'm proud of you for being brave enough to draw in public. I think you did a fine job - it isn't easy and you'll just get better, I promise. hugs, nancy

  5. Happy Anniversary to you! Drawing in public is hard. I have a plan to plant my partner across the room in our local cafe and draw him. I just feel too weird about it otherwise- won't people wonder why I'm staring at them? Anyway, good for you, you did it. Maybe I'll try it and not "cheat". It'll be hard though, I live in a small town and everybody and their brother will come over and ask to see what I'm doing. I'm not ready for that.

  6. Keep trying on the sketching in public! The key is to find someone doing something that will keep them still for a while. Readers, sleepers, even people standing in line remain still for some time. (I guess that depends on the line!)

Happy Anniversary! I do hope you're well enough to celebrate soon!

  7. Oh Vicki...1. congratulations on the 32 years--a great accomplishment in this day and age. 2. Drawing in public--heavy on gesture drawings and light on small details--the suggestion above about finding people doing a quiet activity is really good. another is to draw people from the side or back--They can't see you looking at them! Be well...

  8. Congratulations for your 32th year! That's a great new and I am sorry that you're not feeling well. And yet you still manage to churn out nice photographs and sketches =) That's a lot of strength and passion to be admired. Get well soon (fingers crossed)

  9. Happy Anniversary! you're almost up with me...39 yrs to 2nd husb. 7 yrs to the first. So I've been married over half my life, sometimes it seems like longer. HA.

Glad you got some attention by the doctor and that you find some relief soon. My doctors office doesn't call in the prescriptions until 4 PM of the day they're ordered...so much for needing anything in a hurry.

It is a bit strange to draw in public but what it does is teach you how to "see" which is different from "looking". The gesture drawing of the shape is what you want to get down first. Then, look at the person for a few mins, memorizing as many details as possible. Fill in details after they've moved on. This developes your observation skills and will shorten the learning curve. All drawing/painting is a PROCESS, it takes time and practice. Keep it up and don't be discouraged.
