Gesture Sketches

It is a gorgeous morning here in southern Michigan; I've just gone around the house opening all the windows. It is 62º and breezy and the forecast is for upper 70s. Yay!!

Did you watch the All Star game last night. I watched it while working crossword puzzles and then afterward did a couple of gesture sketches of a pitcher and a batter. At least they started out as gesture sketches and then I started to fiddle. I just can't help it.

I worked for a bit on the handout for my Repurposed Book class that is scheduled for August 13th and am quite happy with it. Now I will try to forget everything I know and just use the handout to see if it is truly workable. There is still room in the class and I'd love to see some of you there.

The treadmill is calling me, so I'd best get moving in that direction before I talk myself out of it. I think the hubster and I are going to run errands this afternoon and I will feel much better if I get a good workout in first.

  1. Hi Vicki, just a suggestion: why don't you try your handout on someone who has no previous knowledge? You would probably get very good feedback.

  2. Lorna,

That is a wonderful idea. Now I will just have to see if I can think of anyone who will be my guinea pig.

  3. I wish I could get my treadmill to call me like yours calls you. Of course I would probably ignore it, but it is sad that I need to read your post to even remember that I have a treadmill too ...

I really like the drawing of the batter ... I can just see the ball he is tapping go bouncing away.

If you wanna try your handout out on me, I would love to see it early >^,,^<

  4. Wow! You've really captured the lines of the human body in your sports sketches. I especially like the bottom one where the batter is just hitting the ball. You can feel the tension.

  5. I think you did a great job on the gesture sketches. I've been working on this myself with posemaniacs and I think I'm still too slow/tentative to try something from the tv.

  6. The body sure is tough. I am working on this myself. You got me thinking about gesture drawing. Thank you. I mostly fiddle. I really like the batter's position - great that you could do that while watching the game. Not much time there at all.

  10. Is your daughter available as a test driver? Or does she already know the drill?

  12. Love gesture drawing--it's the spirit that fuels the sketch!

  13. What a great idea. I tend to overwork sketches, the changing nature of images on the television would make that hard.
