If you don't already know Barbra Joan and you are into watercolor, you really should go over for a visit. There is a link above.
Now onto some of my personal attempts at growth. I've been eating at least two apples a day for about a month now so what would be more natural than to sketch one. I can't believe I chose a pencil instead of a pen. I spent way too much time erasing and reshaping this one. Next time it is pen.
And a few days ago, I tried those dratted Adirondack chairs again. I am determined to get better at them. As a matter of fact I am planning to sketch the three under the trees in the north yard and make it into a watercolor painting. Practice, practice, practice!
I've found my next favorite workout on the treadmill. I walk slowly for a couple of minutes and then do a slow jog for 30 minutes followed by a slow walk cool down. I also did a bit of weight training on the balance ball. I don't feel sore today, so think I must not have worked with the weights very hard. That has to be a first for me. I seldom do things by halves.
I have pretty much decided the Canson watercolor block is not of the quality that I want to spend a lot of time on, so am planning to cut a piece of Arches and begin again on the boats on the beach with buildings. I also may get started on sketching the Adirondacks under the trees.
The hubster is taking the son to a baseball game this evening and I get Miss 7 (who will be 8 in 5 days) and Miss 6 months here at my house. I think I have the better part of this deal - no long drive, no crowds, a much better view on the tv, and two of my girl tribe to hug and hold and do art.
I hope to have something to share with you tomorrow.
xoxo
You are the luckiest person I know when it comes to winning giveaways on blogs! Congrats!! Maybe the girls would like using the Canson - they're so good at making art. Yep, I gotta agree - you got the best deal. BTW, the chairs are coming along nicely. hugs, nancy
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you ate apples in order to naturally draw one. That made me smile. And oh, I love Adirondack chairs... how they look, but I have heard they are not so great to sit in... anyway.. glad to stop by from CED2011 today!
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteIf you sit in a well made one (wood, not plastic), they are so comfortable you may not want to ever get up.

Your chairs and apple look great! And congrats on such a terrific win :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have nailed the shape of the apple, you could try putting a little bit of shading in to give it more form? The watercolour is lovely...lucky you :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Vicki! =) Luck is definitely on your side. Love those sketches too
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are looking great! Yep, it's all about practice. Glad you are sticking with it.
ReplyDeleteI love the Arches paper. It is worth every penny. I was amazed to see there is a difference. ( and even more amazed I could TELL there is a difference.)
ReplyDeleteWe have apples just like that in the fridge.
WOW... I was glad to leave those chairs behind. SO many angles. Will be watching for your set of 3.
