Busy, But Fruitless Day

I'm not sure how yesterday got away from me. I went to my conditioning class and it was great, but after that somehow the day got away from me. Oh, yes, now I remember some of it. I had purchased a rotisserie chicken the day before and decided that I wanted to make some soup. Now that is not so awfully hot, soup appeals to me. I tried making a chicken and lentil soup based on one I found online at food.com. I took most of the meat from the carcass and then put a bit of water over the bones to make myself a bit of chicken stock. I don't put veggies in the stock at this point, I just let the water simmer over the bones. While that was working, I sauteed onion, carrot, celery and mushrooms in butter. I then removed the bones from the stock and added the veggies. I let those simmer for about half an hour and then added half a cup of lentils along with some thyme and a bay leaf. About 45 minutes later I had a wonderful soup. I thought my chorizo soup was my favorite, but I made have found a new one. I must making homemade soup does take up a chunk of time.

In the afternoon I went to a Friends of the Library meeting which was quite enjoyable except for the fact that when you are planning for Fall to Christmas, it makes it seem so much closer in the future. There are some really fun people in this group and we get a lot done at our little branch.

The last "appointment" of my day was a yoga class at the new chiropractic office in Stockbridge. It was a great experience, but I didn't know yoga was so much work. Wow! I am so looking forward to the next time. They also offer pilates classes and I am going to try that as well. I won't be able to go back until next week as Miss K and I are leaving tomorrow morning to drive up to the far north to visit my Mom. It will be nice to have some one on one time with her before she starts school next week.

Here is a photo of where we are headed.

And here are a couple of pix from the yard. Can you believe these volunteer sunflowers? They actually came up around the light pole as though it was planned that way.

I have been working in my altered book/art journal. Mostly using up old acrylic paint and playing with texture making tools and gesso.

I am hoping to spend some time in the art room today as I don't get much time to do art when I am up north visiting. I will try to bring home some pix, though. I probably won't be posting from Mom's, but will be reading your blogs. I don't know if I will be able to leave comments with my iPad, but will certainly try.

What do you have planned for the day? the week? Are you making time for your creative side? Is your muse cooperating? Do tell.....

xoxo

  2. Lovely photos Vicki. Your art journal looks real fun, do you plan ahead a Theme for the whole book, or do you go as the mood takes you page by page?

    1. Hi Ann, When I began this book, I was planning a themed book, but then my sense of play and experimenting got in the way, so now it is full of random fun!

  4. Well if that's a fruitless day, I don't know what a productive one looks like Vicki! Love the photos - especially the sunflowers arranging themselves around the lamp post :)

  7. Homemade soup is so darn good that it is worth the time and trouble, though. ;)
