Dag Nabbit

We got another thunderstorm in the night and now we have inches of water in the basement. I almost cannot believe that the water is coming in under the back door. In our 30 years in this house, we've seen lots of water in the yard, but this is the first time it is actually coming in under the door. There is not much we can do but wait for it to recede and then begin the clean up. Thankfully, we no longer have carpet in the basement and it is used primarily used for storage with most of it up off the floor on shelves.

On a happier note, yesterday the hubster made me a sewing cradle. I am not sure why it has that name as you don't sew with it. It is used to cradle your signatures while you punch the sewing holes in them. Here is what it looks like:

I finally got back to the watercolor pencil work I'd neglected for so long, but didn't at all like the pencil on it, so I carried it over to the watercolor station and began to add color there instead. It still has a long way to go, but here is where I am right now:

I don't have a set plan for today.  I am thinking I might go to an estate sale in Lansing this afternoon. It is an estate of an artist and I may be able to find a few supplies or some interesting paintings or books.

I'm feeling a little blue about the water situation, but am trying to rise above it as there is nothing I can do about it. Meanwhile, the house is closed up as it is another really steamy day here. It is only 70ยบ, but the humidity level is 100%. We have a 40% chance for more showers today. Ugh!!

I hope you are having a good day and I would send some of this water to the Carolinas if I could.

xoxo

  1. Vicki, I'm so sorry about the water seeping into your house. Hang in there and keep painting to keep your mind on other things. The colors in your flower watercolor are lovely. Can't wait to see the next step!

  2. I'm so sorry about all your water. I know what a mess that is. My sister has had several floods in her basement and lost a lot of her things. At least most of the things down there are on shelves. I know that Wed. nite we had 4" here, but further west of us (like you) got way more. I don't know how much there was last nite, but we sure don't need any more! If you went to the estate sale, I hope you scored some great goodies - you deserve them! hugs, nancy

  3. I'm sorry about the water situation. We've never had that happen. I do like the way your vase of flowers is developing. It's going to be beautiful.

  4. So sorry about the flood, that is a nightmare for you, I'm sure. But I'm glad to see that you are painting with the pencils, and the flowers are looking so pretty already!

  5. That vase is already lovely, it will certainly become more lovely as you keep working on it. The sewing cradle is called that because you use it in preparation to sew the signatures. It's a wonderful piece your husband made. I use a phone book, opened to the middle. It's not nearly as lovely!

  6. Oh that sounds really stressful, Vicki - good idea to focus on the art instead. Nice work!

  9. So sorry about the water situation. Bummer.

We've been having really heavy storms too.

We had a lightening strike in our utility closet last week. It melted a surge protector, ran along the cord to the wall outlet and melted the outlet cover, left scorch marks and soot on wall and ceiling.

Luckily this is a concrete house or I wouldn't be here to type this!

I hope your basement dries up soon.

The sewing cradle is very clever. You'll have fun with that!
