Birds and Barns

I think that perhaps birds and barns are my favorite subjects to sketch. Now if I can only make myself try adding a bit of watercolor, maybe I would be happier with them. The meadowlark below has a great deal of golden orange color on its head and breast. It makes him a beauty that the pen sketch cannot capture. I believe the small sketchbook I am working in (3.5" x 5.5") is made of light watercolor paper and I am planning to try adding some color later today when I return from my adventure with my friend, Carol.

This next sketch is of a cabin in the woods, but its overall shape is so barnlike that I couldn't resist sketching it. I will try to add some browns and greens later today to see if I can make it come alive a bit.

It is a beautiful, sunny morning - cold (34ยบ F), but the forecast is calling for mostly sunny with highs in the lower 50s. Altogether a pretty nice early April day. The birds are singing loudly and the sun is warming the house very pleasantly.

I hope you are experiencing a lovely day wherever you are and that you are finding time for yourself and your loved ones. I am looking forward to seeing what you've created when you post to your blog, Facebook, or some other online site.

xoxo

  1. your bird looks so natural, I half expect him to fly off the page. It is hard to get brave enough to add watercolor, I know the feeling. I look forward to seeing what he looks like. Perhaps you can make a few copies of him and try different things before actually doing the sketchbook. GO for it! I know people always tell me, I can always draw another one but they don't see how many I draw before I get one I like!
