Internet Woes and A Short Trip

I've been experiencing a couple of days of internet interruptions so severe that I couldn't even check my email. I have been on the phone with the HughesNet people for three mornings in a row. Each of those days I was on the line with them for so long that the battery in my handset died. Finally today I seem to have the internet back.

Yesterday I got Little Miss 3 around noon and then her sister got off the bus here around 4. Just before Miss 8's bus arrived, my son came over to bring the new baby and Little Miss 7 to stay for a few hours. I hogged spent time with the baby while Papa and the girls made pancakes and sausage for dinner. It was a busy, noisy evening, but loads of fun.

I have a couple of finds to show you and would like to ask you for some ideas. Firstly, the last time Nancy and I went to Ann Arbor, we stopped at a smoke shop (no we weren't smoking or buying smokes) and the proprietor gave me a lovely cigar box. I didn't look inside until I got home and then I immediately thought it would be a great pencil case, but the pencils are much too long, so what would you use it for? I need some ideas. The dividers in the case are 6 inches long and 7/8 inch wide. Isn't this a beauty?

I also went second hand shopping in Charlotte earlier in the month when I took my sister out to lunch for her birthday and she found these two books for me at the Goodwill store. I love them. Not only are the covers in good shape, but they have some very interesting pages and pictures inside.

It is colder than aitch e double hockey sticks and I am getting pretty tired of it. I do, however, have some definite signs of Spring in the yard. I would really appreciate it if we could get a month of 50s and 60s before the 80s and 90s arrive.

I am leaving to visit my sister in about an hour and am planning to stop in Niles to visit my friend Sandy. I will be away for the weekend, so don't know if I will be posting or not. You know that I will be thinking of you and if I have anything to share I will. My sister and I have such fun playing cribbage, scrabble and yahtzee and shopping, walking, whatever. Her husband is a good cook and puts up with us with grace and elan.

I hope you are all well and warm and that you are making time to be creative.

  1. Hm, maybe use the case for pastels/charcoal? Or erasers, pencil sharpeners and other little bits like that? (Maybe you're not like me, with those sorts of things scattered to the four corners of the earth.) That's all I've got at the moment, but I'll let you know if I think of anything else. It's a gorgeous case!

  2. What a great little box. Maybe you could snap all your pencils in half so they'd fit. LOL! Or maybe that could be a place of honor when your pencils are used enough to get that short. It certainly is cold out today, but sunny, and I'm looking forward to your visit. I have a cup of tangarine tea waiting for you.

  3. Hi! You can use that lovely box for keep in order your necklaces or to separate buttons or beads.
I also make a lot of cards and scrapbooking and I think this box would be a great organizer for keep tiny pieces of paper separated by colour, or any kind of little stuff like eyelets...
    The books covers are lovely!

  4. Have a fun week end and be careful on the roads if you're driving where there is ice and snow. We are on the tail end of our HI sojourn and will return to MI in mid-April. I have been making a few books here and will hit the ground running when we get back. Interlochen will have my attention for 40 hr weeks until the end of June.

    Be safe in your travels.

  5. the cigar box and books are great. as a suggestion... it could be a nice pastel or charcoal box for all those odds and ends pieces? or those little pencils you sharpen down to about 5cm, but wont throw out?

  6. Hope you have a lovely weekend! I've got a slightly larger box and I took out the dividers and re- positioned them to make different compartments, I use it for keeping arty bits & pieces that I don't use very often

  7. I'm slowly getting caught up on a few things, among them visiting your blog. The babe is darling in her St. Paddy suit; the jellyfish drawing is Very Good!; lovely bird drawings!; your bookmaking skills are awesome!; and last, but not least, no ideas for the box yet, but I'll mull it over. hugs, nancy

  8. Wow! I would love to see the inside of those Books.
I wish I had found them first.
The box. Brushes, Pencils. Drawing case ready to go. Tons of ideas.
I have a couple of really nice Cigar boxes. They hold my Noodlers Ink.

  9. That is a gorgeous box! Most of my pencils are short enough by now that they would all fit. Maybe you could sort watercolor tubes, by color? I'll keep thinking about it and let you know if I come up with something better!

We somehow skipped all the nicer weather here and have already been in the low nineties, with the super-high humidity we're known for. Last year we didn't get to this point until May! I just returned from a three week road trip though and the weather was fabulous everywhere we went!

Have a great time with your sister; we'll see you when you get back!
