Digital Background Papers

So, after dinner, instead of joining the hubster for a walk (which I really should have done), I stayed in my room playing with Photoshop. Making background paper and playing with color combinations is truly addicting. But after writing the tutorial (see previous post) I just had to play around a bit.

I have been ignoring everything else - except for the phone call from the 6 1/2 year old and her soon to be 2 year old sister. Even an addict has to draw the line somewhere.

At any rate I have been back here playing for a little more than an hour ignoring the hubster and missing the Tiger game.

Here is what I have come up with so far:

A couple of things to remember:

For those patterns that you just don't like go to Edit > Preset Manager and choose Patterns from the drop down menu. Hover over the patterns to find the ones you want to get rid of and do an Option/Alt-click. When you hold down the Option/Alt button the little cursor changes to a pair of scissors and when you click they cut it out.
For those that you do want to save, go to Edit > Preset Manager and select the ones you made (if they are adjacent, select the first one and shift click on the last one. All the ones in between will be selected also. If they are nonadjacent, click on the first one and then Command-click on each of the others.

Once you have them selected, choose Save Set and name it. I put mine in Applications > Adobe Photoshop CS3 > Presets > Patterns.

Hope you have fun trying these!

  1. Oooohweeee! Lovely. They are just fabulous. And....
You just gave me an idea. I just love any form of writing and calligraphy for backgrounds. (I'm a writer by trade, that's probably why.) I'm now quite versed in Photoshop, and I suspect it would be easy to create script and repeat backgrounds. I use stamps at the moment, but they're not always clear, and pages are soooooo expensive.
My own script has never been to my liking, even though I'm an avid journaller. (is that a word, lol?)
    Thanks for the inspiration.
I'll go try my hand at the script and post them here.
    Thank you for the inspiration.
