I Won Again, Blind Contour and Happy B'day Mom

Today is my mother's 85th birthday and my sister and I are driving up to the UP to see her on Monday and coming back on Wednesday. I am really looking forward to this trip as it will probably be the last one until the "big thaw" next Spring. I don't travel much in the winter.

Diahn has begun a blind contour drawing Friday event. You can learn more about it by visiting her at the link provided. I agreed to participate without reading carefully (when will I learn!) and I thought it was a contour drawing event (I was completely blind to the "blind" part of this exercise). However, I think I may really make strides in my drawing of all things if I can get better at blind contour drawing. Here is my first attempt (don't laugh gag). It is supposed to be a small folk art elephant in case you can't tell at all what it represents.

On a brighter note, I am the winner of the Leah Piken Kolidas AEDM (Art Every Day Month (November) Survival Guide and I am so excited to have won this. Leah is a wonderful, friendly, encouraging spirit who has the AED (Art Every Day) site where she offers encouragement and lovely art. She has a Mr. Linky where a wide variety of artists leave their links to their most recent work. It is a wonderful "community" and if you are unfamiliar with it, you should definitely check it out.

I've had a request for a tutorial on how to do the giraffe made out of text and will work on that later today and hope to post it tomorrow. For now, I have a couple of Algebra students coming over this morning and haven't had my first mug of coffee yet.

Gotta go!

  1. Oh, my brave, little, chickie - a folk elephant - I knew it the moment I laid eyes on it! I read your quick instructions on the giraffe, but alas, for this bear of little brain, it was Greek to me .... I only speak Latin .... Pig Latin hugs, nancy

  3. So glad you get to enjoy your mom's 85th birthday with her.

I would have guessed this was an elephant! I haven't tried a blind contour yet. Guess I should get up the nerve.
